The ‘Feck Off Crows!!!’ appears just outside Kenmare, Co. Kerry and always makes us smile when we pass by.
(For those of you not from a farming background, there’s a reason behind the white paint on black polythene. The bales contain silage (winter feed for cattle) and for some reason crows are attracted to them and if they break the airtight seal, the silage goes off and can’t be used. The white paint discourages the birds but the feck off gives us an indication of just how frustrated the farmer must be!)

The ‘Seeds and Manure’ pic comes from Cloyne in East Cork and to us, speaks eloquently and evocatively of a time now passed.
The typography is simple and unaffected; the careful work of a craftsman. On another level, we also like that it acts as a reminder that it’s this basic combination of seeds and manure and light and water that allows us to sustain ourselves on this world of ours.
We regularly add to our gallery of the funny, interesting, nostalgic and forgotten, so if you’ve got any images you’d like to add, email them to us at
